UNIKA Atma Jaya Held International Colloquium on “Storytelling in Sustainability”

The Faculty of Business Administration and Communication Sciences, Universitas Katolik Indonesia (UNIKA) Atma Jaya, in collaboration with the International Communication Association (ICA) Indonesia Chapter, successfully held an international academic colloquium entitled “Storytelling in Sustainability” on Friday, 23 January 2026, from 10.00 to 11.30 WIB, at the Entrepreneurship Laboratory (Lab Kewirausahaan) and via Zoom.

The colloquium brought together international and national scholars to discuss the strategic role of storytelling in advancing sustainability agendas within the field of communication. The forum explored how narratives, media practices, and journalistic approaches could shape public understanding, strengthen engagement, and encourage collective action toward sustainable futures.

The speakers were Prof. Daniel Raichvarg from Bourgogne University, France (ICA France Chapter), Dr. Herlina Agustin, S.Sos., MT. from Universitas Padjadjaran, and Sri Hastjarjo, S.Sos., Ph.D. from Universitas Sebelas Maret, who are all active members of ICA. Each speaker presented different perspectives on storytelling, ranging from science and sustainability communication to the role of journalism and public communication in promoting social and environmental responsibility.

The discussion session was moderated by Dr. Nia Sarinastiti, M.A. from UNIKA Atma Jaya, representing ICA Indonesia Chapter. The interactive dialogue highlighted the importance of storytelling as a communication strategy that not only informs, but also builds meaning, empathy, and public commitment to sustainability issues.

The colloquium was attended by students, lecturers, and researchers from various universities. Through this academic forum, UNIKA Atma Jaya and ICA Indonesia Chapter reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening scholarly collaboration and to encouraging critical discourse on the role of communication in sustainable development.
