76th International Communication Association (ICA) Annual Conference 2026 – Surakarta Hub
“Communication and Inequalities in Context”
Sub-Theme
Beyond Importing Theory:
Advancing Communication Knowledge from Indonesia
In recent decades, communication studies have been largely shaped by theories and frameworks developed in dominant academic centers. While these contributions remain valuable, their universal application often overlooks the complexity of local contexts, particularly in societies marked by deep social, cultural, and digital inequalities.
The Faculty of Business Administration and Communication Sciences, Universitas Katolik Indonesia (UNIKA) Atma Jaya, in collaboration with the International Communication Association (ICA) Indonesia Chapter, successfully held an international academic colloquium entitled “Storytelling in Sustainability” on Friday, 23 January 2026, from 10.00 to 11.30 WIB, at the Entrepreneurship Laboratory (Lab Kewirausahaan) and via Zoom.
Highlights Indonesia’s Role in Global Communication Research
The Faculty of Communication Science at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) proudly hosts the 75th International Communication Association (ICA) Annual Conference – Indonesia Hub Monday (16/6) at the UNPAD Auditorium in Jatinangor, West Java. With the theme “Disrupting & Consolidating Communication Research,” the event underscores Indonesia’s growing contribution to global conversations in the field of communication.
As digital innovation accelerates across Southeast Asia, scholars, practitioners, and policy experts are set to converge in Kuala Lumpur for the 6th Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC), April 29–30, 2025, the hybrid-format event is themed “Advancing Regional Resilience: Digital Transformation Impact on Society in Southeast Asia.”
Hosted collaboratively by Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), and Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), this year’s conference signals a growing urgency to critically examine how digital transformation is reshaping societies across the ASEAN region. The event is also co-organized with the International Communication Association (ICA) Indonesia Chapter and supported by ASIKOPTI, an Indonesian academic communication association.
